Spring Clean Cymru is all about communities getting outdoors, coming together and taking action to care for their local environment. We want everyone to have fun and ensure they stay safe at all times.

We always promote good hygiene practice at our events, and with the coronavirus outbreak we’d like to remind you of the guidance below that is issued with our Spring Clean Cymru briefings to help reduce the spread of preventable illness.

We’re following advice from Public Health Wales who have stated that the risk of coronavirus to individuals is low and being outdoors is safer than being in confined spaces. We’ll update our information if the situation changes.

In particular, participants are asked to follow these simple steps:

  • Wear gloves during the clean-up at all times.

  • Please wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds using soap and hot water before and after your event.
  • Event organisers are advised to provide hand sanitiser for participants where possible or signpost to accessible hand washing facilities.

  • Stay at least 2 metres (about 3 steps) away from other people whenever possible

  • Please cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough or sneeze and dispose of the tissue immediately in a bin and use a hand sanitiser if you are not wearing gloves when this happens.
  • Please don’t attend a clean-up if you feel unwell or are otherwise showing cold or flu like symptoms. You can always postpone getting involved and borrow equipment from one of our litter picking hubs at a later date.

If you’re organising an event and need to postpone or cancel, please get in touch by emailing [email protected] so we can update our online map.

We’ll try to keep this guidance up-to-date but please refer to Public Health Wales for further information.
