Roadside litter is a complex and highly costly problem. This is because there are significant health and safety issues and costs associated with clearing litter on roadsides, laybys and junctions. This makes it harder to tackle the problem and for cleansing to take place.

The responsibility for maintaining and improving the road network in Wales lies with the local authorities in which they go through except for the major trunk roads which are the responsibility of the Welsh Government’s trunk road agencies (the South Wales Trunk Road Agency and the North Wales Trunk Road Agency).

How to report roadside litter

If you see any roadside litter, you can report a problem to your local authority or the relevant agency.
