Saving the planet, twice a day! Keep Wales Tidy has joined forces with Brushbox, a Cardiff-based start-up, to promote the use of eco-friendly bamboo toothbrushes and oral health products. Both organisations are committed to trying to combat the estimated 3.6 billion plastic toothbrushes that end up in landfill or our oceans each year. Brushbox is the UK’s first sustainable subscription service, providing 100% biodegradable, vegan, cruelty-free, recyclable toothbrushes. Since its launch in 2018, Brushbox has delivered thousands of boxes across the country and has been listed as ‘the number one start-up business to watch’ in Wales. The aim is to make oral healthcare easier to manage and more sustainable. As well as reducing the build-up of plastic, Brushbox runs a ‘Buy One, Give One, Plant One’ scheme, so for every toothbrush sold, one is given to a child in need and one tree is planted. Mike Donovan, Chief Executive Office for Brushbox said: The awareness around the damage that plastics are having in our seas and environment means that there is an ever-growing population of consumers who are crying out for eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives to the status-quo, and it’s important that this is done well. Keep Wales Tidy plans to raise awareness of Brushbox’s biodegradable toothbrushes through one of their international programmes, Green Key. Green Key is the world’s leading eco-label awarded to more than 3,000 hospitality providers in 60 countries worldwide. Lesley Jones, Chief Executive for Keep Wales Tidy said: We are delighted to be working with Brushbox to help reduce plastic waste in Wales. Research shows that holiday-goers are most likely to forget to pack a toothbrush, so we hope that our new partnership will enable Green Key businesses to help their guests, while also showcasing their commitment to protecting our precious environment.
