Our Chair - Ed Evans Expand Ed is the Director for the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Wales which represents Wales civil engineering contracting sector. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer and has over 25 years’ experience of the construction industry at a senior level across the public and private sectors in Wales. In 2011, he was appointed by the Welsh Government to the Board of the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority. He is also Chair of a Board of Trustees at Pedal Power, a local charity which promotes cycling for disabled children and adults, and is a partner in a family farming business.
Mathew Prosser Expand Mathew is the UK Managing Director at DS Smith Recycling, a division of DS Smith Plc (a FTSE 250 company). Previously he worked at P&O Transport, The Mirror Group, Cadbury’s, and more recently, as a Director at Biffa PLC. Mathew has over 30 years experience working in the environmental sector, and is keen to support local communities and their environmental initiatives. Recycling and waste management are key factors in reducing carbon footprint and improving environmental performance, meaning he is ideally placed to advocate the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra in both the business and community sectors.
Stephen Williams Expand Stephen has spent over 30 years in local government as a Parks Manager and as a Best Value Officer, during which he carried out service reviews on grounds maintenance, street cleansing, refuse collection and highways. Stephen is an experienced Trustee, having work with a number of charities including Gwent Wildlife Trust. As a trustee with health social care charities he acted as a Third Sector Advisor during Government inquiries in 2012 and 2014 and was a member of the Older People's Commissioner for Wales National Advisory Board in 2014/15.
Michelle Webber Expand Michelle is an experienced environmental professional with a lifelong commitment to understanding the environment and contributing towards managing it in a sustainable way. Having held various positions with the Environment Agency, Michelle left to pursue a doctorate at Aberystwyth University where she investigated the economic values and public perceptions of an environmental resource. In 2008, Michelle became Conservation and Sustainability Team Leader for a local authority. She has a keen interest in the health and well-being benefits of the environment and how a high quality environment supports our economy.
Kay Zbzieblo Expand Kay is a recently retired secondary school teacher. 40 years of teaching science and environmental issues has given Kay extensive experience of education which she hopes will contribute to the role of Trustee of Keep Wales Tidy. Kay has been actively involved in Eco-Schools since its inception and has been an activist in promoting Fairtrade and Global Learning within the primary and secondary sector. She has been an advocate for the education of youngsters in the need to protect our environment and to raise the standards of care of the environment in themselves and in their own spheres of influence and believes her service with Keep Wales Tidy will enable her to continue this work.
Nic Naish Expand Nic is an Executive Headteacher across primary schools in Cardiff and has worked within the South Wales education sector for over 20 years. During this time, he has supported the delivery of environmental projects within schools so that our young people can make informed lifestyle choices that support the reduce, reuse and recycle message and work towards gaining the Eco-Schools Green Flag award in schools. He has worked with colleagues to develop activities that engage communities to take greater care of their local environment and he is constantly seeking new ways to further engage with his school communities to improve environmental awareness, knowledge and action.
Andrew Stumpf Expand Andrew has recently retired from the Canal & River Trust where he was Head of Wales, leading discussions with Welsh Government and other national bodies in Wales. Beginning as a volunteer over 40 years ago, his career in waterways has taken him to three of our four nations in a range of operational, fundraising and public affairs roles. Increasingly his work has employed existing social, cultural and physical capital to help people improve their communities economically and environmentally. Originally trained as a naval architect in Newcastle, he later completed an MBA in Bristol and later a Diploma in Marketing. This year saw him qualify as a Green Flag and Blue Flag judge volunteering for Keep Wales Tidy.
Lesley Babb Expand Lesley joined the Civil Service in 2000 and has spent her career in variety of HR and Corporate Service roles (including Environmental Management) within the Intellectual Property Office and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (now BEIS). She is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development and has experience across a number of specialisms within the HR profession. Lesley currently heads up the HR Pay, Reward, Diversity and Inclusion team in IPO. She is passionate about inclusion and is a champion for mental health awareness and support.
Chris Jones Expand After leaving school, Chris trained as a cameraman, travelling the world, working for companies, corporations and various broadcast channels, and achieving 28 years as a weather presenter on S4C. Alongside this, Chris has a busy schedule hosting awards ceremonies, leading and chairing conferences and exhibitions, and with public speaking events, in both Welsh and English, as well as hosting a weekly radio show on Swansea Sound. Chris also works in schools and colleges to promote entrepreneurship and starting a business. Chris is a patron of a West Wales prostate cancer support charity as well as an ambassador for the Prostate Cymru charity group.
Martyn Woodfiled Expand Martyn has recently retired after a 40 year career in the Manufacturing Industry. Over the past 30 years he has held various Senior Management positions at the Sony UK Tech facility at Pencoed. Since his retirement he has been looking for new challenges that he can use his skills and experience in positive community-based projects. He is a Justice of the Peace, is a keen fisherman who is involved in a fishing charity and is also active within his area with litter picking.
